There are various ways to direct a domain to another domain or subdomain and one of them is by creating a CNAME record. When you own a domain and you have developed a site through some online service that provides you with a service subdomain, you could easily link the two by setting up a CNAME record for your-domain.com that points to subdomain.provider.com. What you are going to achieve in this way is that www.your-domain.com is going to be in the browser address bar while it opens the already mentioned website from the servers of the third-party provider. It is essential to know that if you create a CNAME record, any other records your domain address may have will stop functioning, so you cannot have both a CNAME record pointing to one company and functioning email addresses with a different one. The CNAME record is always an alpha string, not a number, and frequently further configuration may be required with the other provider.

CNAME Records in Cloud Website Hosting

In case you have a cloud website hosting plan through our company and you wish to set up a CNAME record, it'll take you a few clicks to make it happen. You can access the DNS records for all domain names and subdomains hosted inside your account from the Hepsia Control Panel included with each plan and adding a new record is as easy as clicking on a button, choosing the type, which is CNAME in this case, inputting the actual record value and saving the change. If you've never added such a record before, we have a Help section with a detailed video tutorial which you can watch, or you can simply contact us and we'll assist you with this task. If you have created an Internet site using another company, you want to use a private URL for your webmail or you wish to designate a subdomain to be used with the services of a different provider, for example Google Apps, all it takes is setting up a CNAME record with a few mouse clicks inside your Control Panel.

CNAME Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

The Hepsia hosting Control Panel, which comes with each of our semi-dedicated server accounts, will permit you to set up a CNAME record easily. Whether you want to create a private URL for your e-mails, to redirect a domain to a subdomain in the account or to forward a domain address to another provider and use some third-party service that they provide, it's not going to take you more than 3 mouse clicks to create this type of record. All DNS records for the domain names and subdomains hosted in the semi-dedicated account are going to be listed in a separate section in the Control Panel, so once you're there, all that you will have to do will be to pick the type of the record that you want to create and the hostname for which you are creating it, and then enter the actual record text. For your benefit, you can watch a short video in the Control Panel about how to set up a CNAME record or you can refer to the instructions in the help article, which is available in the DNS records section.
